Balazs Toth is loving life at Rovers and hopes that his first taste of Championship football is not too far away.

The Hungarian goalkeeper arrived at Ewood Park in the summer to provide competition for Aynsley Pears following Leo Wahlstedt’s move to Aarhus.

Toth played the full 90 minutes for the Under-21 side against Arsenal on Monday night and was delighted to be back on the pitch.

It was his second outing with Mike Sheron’s squad, having also featured at Carlisle in the Central League Cup last month.

The 27-year-old has had to be patient over the past couple of months as he adjusts to English football, with Pears starting all 12 league games so far this term.

He also went away with the Hungary squad on international duty but was an unused substitute in the Nations League.

Toth has settled in well in East Lancashire and believes that his work with goalkeeping coach Ben Benson is already starting to pay off.

The former Fehervar shot stopper is determined to keep putting in the hard work on the training pitch so that he is ready to be called upon in the league.

“I finally got some minutes after playing one game in the last two months for the Under-21s,” he told RoversTV.

“Unfortunately, we lost the game and I let in four goals so it was not the best, but it was good to play again.

“I need to play more and I hope that one day I will be in the first team.

“I love being here, I am enjoying every session. The football is a little bit different to in Hungary and I am enjoying being around the guys. I love working with Ben and feel like I am improving day by day.

“It is a little bit different (to what I expected), it is better than what I thought. I watched the Championship games before in Hungary and look forward to when I will be there (on the pitch).”
