John Eustace has confirmed that Hayden Carter will be out for two to three months after undergoing knee surgery.
The defender limped off during the 0-0 draw against West Brom in midweek. It was a worrying-looking injury with the player unable to put much weight on his left leg.
Carter revealed he'd had surgery on his Instagram ahead of kick-off at Vicarage Road. That all-but confirmed he was set for an extended period on the sidelines.
Eustace then confirmed after the match that the defender will be missing for the rest of 2024.
"Hayden is going to be out for two to three months which is a big blow for us, unfortunately," Eustace confirmed.
"He's started the season very well on the back of last season too. It is a big blow but we have players ready to step up.
"He's been outstanding since I have come to the football club but we have players to come in."
Danny Batth is likley to get an extended run alongside Dom Hyam at centre-back. Kyle McFadzean, who hasn't played a minute yet in the league this term, is also in contention after returning to the squad at Watford following surgery on his hand.
