Rovers started the season with five successive home wins for the first time since 1994/95 following a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Swansea City.

Tyrhys Dolan got the decisive goal inside the opening 15 minutes as John Eustace’s side bounced back from their defeats against Coventry and Plymouth before the international break.

Eustace made three changes from the side that was beaten at Plymouth before the break, with Owen Beck returning from suspension. Joe Rankin-Costello and Todd Cantwell also came into the starting line-up, with Kyle McFadzean and Amario Cozier-Duberry both missing out through injury.

Rovers started on the front foot, with Dolan getting to the byline and cutting the ball back into the danger area. Ryan Hedges got a slight touch and it dropped to Cantwell, whose shot hit the side netting.

Dolan continued to show intent in the opening stages, using his strength to get past Florian Bianchini before sending a strike over the crossbar from an angle.

Beck got down the left moments later and almost teed up Hedges in the middle, but he was inches away from slotting home.

The early pressure paid off when Dolan opened the scoring after 13 minutes with a clinical finish past Lawrence Vigouroux after Swansea had failed to clear a corner, although Makhtar Gueye seemed to claim he got a touch on the way in.

Bianchini saw a shot blocked before Harry Darling’s free kick was simple for Aynsley Pears to deal with as the visitors searched for an immediate response.

Josh Key caused problems down the right as the first half went on and his low cross was almost turned it at the far post by Bianchini, who failed to make a clean connection.

Rovers came back out after the break with intensity as Hedges whistled a strike just wide of the top corner after combining with Hayden Carter.

At the other end, Pears made a good block from close range before Liam Cullen looped a header over from Ronald’s cross.

Eustace turned to the bench on the hour mark, with Yuki Ohashi replacing Gueye after a decent shift leading the line.

Callum Brittain and Andi Weimann were also introduced 10 minutes later as Rovers looked to maintain their lead.

Weimann was immediately involved in the action, latching onto Cantwell’s pass and catching his strike sweetly, although it was held by Vigouroux.

Swansea started to take more risks heading into the final 10 minutes, which left spaces for Rovers to exploit on the break. Cantwell looked to take advantage but couldn’t quite pick out Ohashi at the far post after a well worked move.

Swansea cranked up the pressure heading in the final stages but Rovers stood firm, with Pears keeping out Darling’s header before Key’s deflected cross crept just wide.

Weimann almost added a second at the death after another quick breakaway but his curling strike was kept out by Vigouroux.
