Talented teenage Ramsbottom fighter Ella Thompstone has been selected to join the prestigious GB Boxing Academy Squad, based at the Institute of Sport, in Sheffield.
Following a successful GB Assessment, the 19-year-old received the exciting news she has been invited to join the squad - a testament to her hard work and dedication.
Thompstone’s boxing journey began at Bury ABC, where she became a Youth National Champion under the guidance and coaching of Mick Jelley and Colin Carr.
She then moved to Leigh at the end of 2023, where she won the Senior National title aged just 18, beating some of the best and most respected women in English amateur boxing.
Thompstone has also represented England at international level, and her invitation to join the GB Boxing Academy marks the next major step in her journey, where she will have the opportunity to train and compete among the country’s top emerging boxing talents.
She will now join up with her fellow Leigh fighters, brothers Will and Paddy Hewitt, who are also on the GB Boxing Squad.
Thompstone will train with the GB Boxing Academy from the beginning of 2025 to keep progressing through the ranks, with an eye on future championships and the ultimate dream of representing Team GB at the Olympics.
