Dom Hyam has praised the behind-the-scenes impact of Kyle McFadzean despite limited game time for Blackburn Rovers.

The 37-year-old renewed his contract with the club at the start of August after impressing with his overall impact after arriving in January.

Game time has been limited so far this term, with the defender restricted to Carabao Cup appearances so far. However, his impact on the group has still been felt, which has been highlighted by John Eustace and now his team-mate.

A clip of McFadzean's coaching young defender Leo Duru at Burnley went viral with supporters on social media. His experience and knowledge of the Championship was something that was greatly lacking last season.

Those same qualities have been brought by Danny Batth and Andi Weimann, who have had a more tangible effect on the field. Both started the last three games before the international break.

Hyam believes the balance of Rovers' squad is far better now and that a lot of the behind-the-scenes work at the training ground can go unnoticed.

"It's about being adaptable. You want consistency, familiarity," Hyam said on his defensive partners.

"So far with Danny (Batth), it's gone very well with him. I'm enjoying the partnership and we have kept a few clean sheets too.

"It's all part of having a good squad. He was on the bench in the first few games, waiting for his opportunity and now he's taken it with both hands.

"I'm really enjoying playing with him. It's underestimated how much experience helps. We spent 90% of our time at the training ground and the fans don't see that behind closed doors.

"It's massive that they have helped the team, not just defensively but experience-wise. Cool and calm heads when needed. You can't always see it from outside the bubble just how important that connection with the squad is.

"Fadz hasn't played much this season yet but the gaffer has been adamant that everyone will get their opportunity and that's why we need a big strong squad.

"Games come Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday. You have to rotate a bit and use your squad. He has been vital for us so far even if he hasn't played as much as he would've liked.

"He's a massive part of the dressing room."

With six games coming in a quick four-week block after the international break, McFadzean may get his opportunity as Eustace uses his squad. The Rovers head coach has repeatedly stressed the need to keep everyone fit.

The defender has featured for the Under-21s to maintain and top up those fitness levels. A behind-closed-doors game against Premier League opposition over the international break was cancelled, which he'd have likely been involved in.
