Blackburn Rovers Under-21s boss Mike Sheron has praised the development of Igor Tyjon.

The 16-year-old continues to impress for Rovers and has now scored three in three for the 21s. He has also made his first-team debut this season, making him the third youngest player in the club's history.

The teenager has plenty of talent and his potential is undoubted, making it a major coup for Rovers to tie him to a scholarship. He can sign his first professional contract when he turns 17, in March 2025.

Whether it be John Eustace or the Academy staff, Tyjon has certainly made an impression.

“I love his bravery and his positivity,” Sheron said. “We asked him to play off the left tonight and he’ll receive the ball in any situation.

“He’ll turn, he’ll try to go forward, he’s positive, he looks after it, he’s always reliable in possession and he’s always a threat.

“I think that’s his third goal in three games and he’s scored four goals this season now, and he’s not played a hell of a lot of football.

“So it’s great that he’s playing a bit more consistently, it’s great that he’s scoring goals and I think that he’s going to be a real threat this season and hopefully he gets an opportunity with the first team somewhere down the line.”

Sheron is also pleased to be helping nurse Harry Leonard back to full fitness, having worked with the young Rovers striker extensively as he broke through the ranks.

“We all know Harry is a good footballer and a great goalscorer. He’s proved that at this level over the years,” he added.

“It’s great that he’s been in and around the first team, and shown that he can do it at first team level as well.

“He needs games, he needs minutes, he’s training well. We challenged him with one or two things tonight and I think he tried to do that.

“He definitely got opportunities to score. It didn’t happen for him tonight, but it’s another 75 minutes in the bank for him and hopefully a step closer to a first-team return.”
