Plymouth Argyle have Andre Gray on a short-term deal ahead of facing Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.

The former Burnley forward has penned a deal until January and is available to make his debut at Home Park this weekend, subject to EFL clearance.

Gray, now 33, last played for Al-Riyadh in the Saudi Pro-League, where he scored seven goals in 16 games last season.

The move for Gray has been prompted by a long-term injury to striker Muhamed Tijani, who is out until the New Year with a hamstring injury.

Wayne Rooney said: “Once we knew the severity of Muhamed’s injury, we moved quickly to bring in a striker to replace him.

“Andre is a striker of real quality and has played and scored goals at the highest level. He will provide competition in forward areas as we head into a busy period of the season, and I am really happy to have him here.”

Plymouth are expecting to welcome back Joe Edwards and Michael Obafemi into their squad for the weekend too. Adam Forshaw, though, is out of the game.

"Joe Edwards has picked up a knock. I'm fully expecting him to be available for Saturday. Adam Forshaw got injured in training. Hopefully, he will be back not too long after the international break.

"He felt it during the last game. He reported it after I spoke to you guys (the media) actually. We have had it scanned and it's not too serious but it's still disappointing to lose him.

"Michael will be back in the squad on Saturday for us, and for Joe (Hatch) now we need to try to integrate him into the squad. He hasn't even trained with us. We have to be creative as well because we have got players who can play up there who are not natural number nines."
