Mark Robins has admitted he is concerned about Coventry City's mentality after another poor start to the season.

The Robins have only won one of their first eight matches in the past two seasons despite successful seasons. Coventry have once again been slow starters this time around, with one victory from seven.

They were beaten 3-0 by Leeds United at the weekend and supporters have voiced their frustrations with another poor opening to the campaign.

Robins is hoping for a much-improved display against Rovers on Tuesday night and highlighted how the team must improve their mentality by playing more positively.

“For whatever reason, there’s a mentality of taking the easy option at this moment in time rather than moving the ball in the right direction and taking the right option and that was the story," he said.

"We didn’t do that well enough and then we ended up conceding goals and then at 3-0 down it’s easier to play because there’s no pressure on you. The game is gone, from that point of view.

“Brandon came on and had a really good effort on goal, but it took far too long to get anywhere near their goal. It was really disappointing, so we have got to try to turn that around, turn the performance around and the mentality around on Tuesday because we were poor today.”

After struggling defensively, with 11 goals conceded already this term, Robins made the decision to drop Oliver Dovin for Ben Wilson, who scored the infamous equaliser at Ewood Park.

Robins put that decision down to familiarity as Coventry look to get back to basics ahead of facing Rovers.

“Just to give the players more of a voice, to try to give them that voice and confidence," he said.

"Ben knows the league and is confident, played in it for a number of years now and he played well in the games just recently, so that was the reason. But also just to give Oliver a little bit of a breather, mentally.”
