Rovers forward Jack Vale is back at Ewood Park after picking up a calf injury while on loan at Motherwell.

The 23-year-old re-joined the Steelmen on a season-long loan on deadline day, having spent the second half of last term at Fir Park.

Vale featured in a 2-1 win against St Johnstone last month, coming off the bench for the final 20 minutes. He also played the second half of the 2-1 defeat at Aberdeen a couple of weeks later.

However, the striker was absent from the squad during last Friday’s win against Dundee United in the Premier Sports Cup quarter-final.

The Scottish Premiership club have now confirmed in a statement he is set for a spell on the sidelines and has returned to East Lancashire to begin his recovery.

“Jack Vale has picked up a calf injury and will be missing for 10 to 12 weeks,” the statement read.

“The forward has now returned to his parent club Blackburn Rovers to begin his rehabilitation. Speedy recovery, Jack.”

Vale got on the scoresheet for Rovers in the 6-1 win against Stockport County in the Carabao Cup earlier this season before heading back out on loan. He also featured against Blackpool in the following round.

Motherwell are back in action this weekend when they host St Mirren. Stuart Kettlewell’s side currently sit sixth in the table, having won two of their opening five matches.
