Aynsley Pears reiterated the need for action from the authorities after Owen Beck was bitten by Milutin Osmajic.

Blackburn Rovers have been contacted by The FA for their observations about the second-half incident. Footage shows the Preston North End clearly biting the defender, who was left with a mark on the back of his neck.

Osmajic will likely get a lengthy ban at the end of this investigation, which Pears feels is well deserved.

"I think he's alright but it's clear to see he has been bitten, which is ridiculous," he told The Lancashire Telegraph.

"We're not too happy about it. There isn't much to say about it, he's bitten him and I hope he gets the sanctions he deserves."

Rovers continued their unbeaten start to the season at Deepdale, with confidence high. Fans are hopeful that, after last season's struggles, the team can challenge at the right end of the table this term.

Pears believes a top-half finish is the minimum expectation considering the quality in the group. He believes the competition and depth in the squad is the best he's seen during his time at Ewood Park.

"I've got to be ready at all times and I feel very good. I had a few saves to make, I did that and it's my job done," he said first on his own form.

"You always have to be switched on, that's the mentality and you gain that with experience. I have found a way to deal with it and I will keep doing that.

"We're all very positive and optimistic about this season. The start shows that if we don't win games, we'll not lose them. We have been solid.

"I think this team compared to previous years I have been here, has a lot more depth. So injuries won't play as much of a factor, the competition is great and it keeps everyone at the top of their game.

"The atmosphere couldn't be any better. That comes from the top. Our expectations are to try and win every game because I think we can.

"If we're not in the top half of the table, I think we'd all be sat here disappointed. We all want to aim for the top and we'll try our best to do that."

There was minor frustration from the Rovers camp at being unable to break down Preston on Sunday, having had a man advantage for 45 minutes.

The Rovers goalkeeper felt that a point apiece was probably a fair result with neither team able to break down the other.

"I didn't think we were at our best and then after the sending off, we couldn't really break them down.

"You have to come away from these games with the positives, we have come away from home and we're unbeaten, taken a point. If we're not at our best and we're still collecting points, it's a good sign.

"They tried to break us too but we were strong and solid. A point was a fair result although we are disappointed because they were down to ten men for 45 minutes.

"The lads have been brilliant, we're unbeaten and so we're happy. It's another clean sheet. The connections between the back four, midfield and attackers is brilliant, they all play a big part.

"We have a lot of experience. Danny(Batth) comes in for two games and is solid as a rock. Kyle McFadzean on the bench, solid as well. It's great people to have around the dressing room. We need that in good times and bad times.

"The manager has been brilliant, there's a lot of work defending crosses and the structure. We all like what he's doing."
