Here's how The Lancashire Telegraph scored the players' performances, with a six representing par for the course.
Aynsley Pears - 8
Didn't have loads to do but what he did, he did well. Two smart saves at the end of the first half to deny Potts and Hughes. Collected a few testing balls well. Great save late on to deny Whiteman.
Hayden Carter - 7
Booked early on but managed himself well after that. Tried to offer a threat in the final third with a man advantage.
Danny Batth - 7
Passing wasn't the best in the first half as Rovers struggled to get out. Defended his box very well and won his duels, as you'd expect.
Dom Hyam - 7
Similar to Batth where Rovers repeatedly went long despite a target to hit. Didn't put a foot wrong defensively though and won plenty of challenges.
Owen Beck - 6
Rovers' bright spark in the first half. Didn't quite have as much joy as hoped in the second half when Rovers were trying to break Preston down. Sent off late on for kicking out.
Lewis Travis - 7
Won plenty of tackles but couldn't unlock the Preston door from deep.
Sondre Tronstad - 7
Like his midfield partner, solid out of possession but Rovers lacked a spark to break down a resolute defence.
Ryan Hedges - 7
Held the width on the right side but didn't get the better of Hughes on many occasions.
Tyrhys Dolan - 6
Had one sight of goal where he hit the post from the rebound of Hedges' shot. Otherwise, a quiet day at the office.
Lewis Baker - 6
Saw little of the ball in the first half and spent most of his time chasing after Potts. Wasn't a surprise to see him sacrificed at half-time to adjust the balance of the attack.
Yuki Ohashi - 6
Didn't see much of the ball in the first half and didn't have any sights of goal in the second either. A frustrating afternoon.
Substitutes:
Makhtar Gueye (Baker, 45') - 6
Added some height and physicality to the attack, which was needed, but found it tough to find space against a packed defence.
Andi Weimann (Dolan, 66') - 6
Couldn't create a great deal after coming on.
Todd Cantwell (Tronstad, 77') - 6
On for the last 15 minutes. Got on the ball in deeper areas but couldn't find the opening.
Amario Cozier-Duberry (Hedges, 77') - 6
Looked bright in his brief cameo but again the door was slammed shut in his face.
Harry Pickering (Ohashi, 90') - N/A
On at left-back after Beck was sent off.
Unused substitutes: Toth, McFadzean, Buckley Rankin-Costello.
Referee: Matt Donohue
