John Eustace was delighted to hand Igor Tyjon his Blackburn Rovers debut against Bristol City.

The 16-year-old became the third-youngest player in the club's history as he came on for the final seven minutes on Saturday. Having been on the bench previously, it was a day to remember for the youngster and his family.

Tyjon committed his future to Rovers in the summer despite serious interest from Premier League clubs. He has now been capped by England's youth team too and is eligible for Poland.

The teenager signed for the Academy from Rochdale 12 months ago and has risen from Under-18s through the ranks rapidly. He impressed Eustace in pre-season and that earned him his debut at the weekend.

"Igor has been a standout young player since I have been at the football club," Eustace told The Lancashire Telegraph.

"He had a fantastic pre-season. He's just played for England in the week. I was delighted to give him his debut today. He has worked, very, very hard.

"He's a 16-year-old boy and we have to remember that. He is certainly one for the future."

Rovers will continue to split Tyjon's minutes between the Under-21s and first team but this was another reminder of their commitment to young players.
