Burnley defender Maxime Esteve has put pen to paper over a new five-year deal at Turf Moor.

The French Under-21 international joined the Clarets from Montpellier in January and was a regular starter during the second half of last term.

Esteve, who has featured in all four Championship games so far this season, becomes the latest member of Scott Parker's squad to commit his future to the club after Josh Cullen and Luca Koleosho.

“I’m very happy, very proud. This club is very special and important to me," he told the club site.

“The welcome since coming here has been amazing. Everyone in the dressing room, staff, fans are so special to me.

“I felt at home very quickly. My wife and family are happy so to sign this contract is very good.”

Burnley return to Championship action this weekend with a trip to Elland Road to take on Leeds United.

Daniel Farke's side narrowly missed out on promotion back to the top flight last season, coming up short against Southampton in the play-off final at Wembley.

Leeds have taken eight points from their opening four matches following a 2-0 victory against Hull City before the break.
