Head coach Simon Parker has challenged Blackburn Rovers Women to improve on last season's success on the eve of their 2024/25 Championship season.
Rovers begin their campaign this Sunday against London City Lionesses, with every home match to be played at Ewood Park for the first time in their history.
It was a hugely triumphant year for the Women's team last term, finishing sixth in the table. Despite a tricky summer, with the bulk of the squad moving on to new homes, Parker has challenged his squad to better last year's achievements.
"Pre-season has been very good and if I compare to where we were this time last year in terms of intensity in games, we are ahead of where we were. Everything is very positive," he said.
“We had a great season and there have been changes since, but I am really happy we have been able to bring in the players that we have.
“We worked hard to identify good characters and focused on players who we wanted to give an opportunity. We have got a hungry group of players who want to prove a point.
“They have all gelled really quickly and our performances in our pre-season friendlies have been good, we hit a lot of the targets that we wanted to. The ultimate aim is to improve on last season.
“Anyone can beat anyone, but we have that hungry team with hungry individuals so in terms of the preparation, work rate and intensity, everyone fully understands what we need to do.
“In every season, the first game is always going to be that benchmark as it’s a really competitive league.
“We have a points total that we want to get to, we want to kick on, improve and do better than we did last year. We are aware of the challenges that the league throws at you.”
“It’s amazing. We had a strong record at home and it’s really good having that set base," he added.
"We love playing at Ewood Park, it’s a great stadium and it’s really nice to be there and having that as a steady base which will hopefully help us bring more fans in, the facilities are fantastic.
“It’s massive for us as it’s another indication that the club are behind us.”
Tickets are still available for the game on Sunday at Ewood Park and you can purchase season or match tickets here.
