John Fleck has revealed that Kyle McFadzean helped him build up his fitness over the summer after a frustrating spell out injured.
Fleck spent the second half of last season at Ewood Park on a short-term deal but picked up a shin issue 20 minutes into his debut against Preston North End, which saw his campaign cut short.
It was reported last week that the experienced midfielder had been training with Chesterfield and he has now penned a contract with the Spireites until the end of the season.
Fleck explained what his recovery from injury and training situation looked like while he was without a club over the summer.
“I was keeping myself as fit as possible,” he told the club channels. “I had a good break with my family. I had just recovered from injury so was getting over that and getting myself back to normal fitness.
“I feel great. It has been my first week of proper training, I have kept myself ticking over throughout the summer. I will keep getting fitter and fitter as I go.
“It can be difficult at times. I was doing some boxing training in Sheffield, and I was with Kyle McFadzean and his brother for a bit before he went back to Blackburn.
“There were people there for me to train with so I wasn’t by myself all the time.
“The game sharpness will probably take some time, as it always does, butI am certainly up for selection so will wait and see.”
Chesterfield have made a positive start to life back in League Two as they aim to build on promotion from the National League, picking up eight points from their opening five matches.
Fleck was in attendance for the 2-1 win against Grimsby last weekend as Paul Cook's side managed to see the game out despite playing the final 20 minutes with 10 men.
"This season, I am sure half of the teams in the league will be looking to get out of it. We just need consistency in performance and results,” he added.
“I have played against a lot of the boys here over the years and they have been great with me since I came in.
“There are obviously a lot of good teams. After being at the game the other day, which I thought was a very good game from both sides, it is going to be tough.”
