We have taken a look at the players who departed Ewood Park last summer and how they are getting on at their respective clubs 12 months on.

Thomas Kaminski

The goalkeeper is back in the Championship following relegation with Luton and has made four appearances so far this season.

He was sent off during the goalless draw against Portsmouth and therefore missed the 1-0 defeat at Preston North End.

The Hatters have had a tough start to life back in the second tier, losing three of their opening four matches.

Kaminski was linked with a move to Leicester over the summer as the Foxes prepared for life back in the top flight.

It is understood that Rovers would receive 10 per cent of the profit should the 31-year-old leave Kenilworth Road.

Ben Brereton Diaz

The Chile international struggled to nail down a place in the side at Villarreal and returned to England in January, spending the second half on loan at Sheffield United.

He scored six goals in 16 games for the Blades but it wasn’t enough to prevent them finishing bottom of the Premier League.

Brereton Diaz made a permanent switch to Southampton this summer as the Saints aim to build on their play-off final triumph against Leeds at Wembley.

The 25-year-old has played three times so far for the South coast club, who are still searching for their first points of the season.

He was involved in an altercation with Fabian Schar on the opening day that saw the Newcastle defender sent off.

Ex-Rovers talisman Alan Shearer gave his verdict on the incident while on punditry duties for Match of the Day.

“They can’t have too many complaints. You know the law - if you put your head into someone, you run the risk of a red card," said Shearer.

“The argument will be that he takes the bait completely. It’s embarrassing what Brereton Diaz does and the way he reacts like that.”

Bradley Dack

The former Rovers favourite was released by Sunderland at the end of last term, having scored once in 17 matches for the Black Cats.

Dack is now back at Gillingham, where he plied his trade before heading to Ewood Park in the summer of 2017.

He has made one appearance so far this season, playing the first half of the 2-1 defeat against Peterborough in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy.

The attacking midfielder was initially named in the squad to face Doncaster at the weekend but pulled out before kick-off, with Joe Gbode taking his place.

The Gills have had a fairly strong start to the League Two campaign, taking 10 points from their opening five fixtures.

Ash Phillips

The young defender spent the second half of last term on loan at Plymouth as the Pilgrims narrowly avoided relegation, finishing a point above the drop zone.

He will spend this season at Stoke City as the Potters aim to kick on under Steven Schumacher, who took charge last December.

Phillips made his Stoke debut in the 5-0 victory at Middlesbrough in the Carabao Cup and also got minutes under his belt in the 1-0 win against former club Plymouth last weekend.

Schumacher’s men sit 11th in the table with two wins and two defeats from their four matches so far.

Tayo Edun

The full-back headed to League One side Charlton last summer and played 33 times in his first season at the Valley.

He has only featured once so far this term, coming off the bench in the 1-0 defeat against Birmingham in the Carabao Cup.

Charlton are fifth in League One at this early stage, with 10 out of a possible 15 points under former Luton and Southampton boss Nathan Jones, who took charge in February.

Daniel Ayala

The experienced centre-back had a stint at Rotherham last season following his Rovers exit but only played seven times before he was sidelined by a long-term injury.

Ayala’s last couple of appearances for the Millers both resulted in red cards against Swansea and Plymouth respectively.

He left the New York Stadium by mutual consent in March and has so far been unable to find a new club.

Dan Butterworth

The 24-year-old spent last term at Carlisle following his release by Rovers, scoring four goals in 33 matches as the Cumbrians were relegated from League One.

He made the move to Swindon in the final stages of the summer window, penning a two-year deal at the County Ground.

Butterworth has made three appearances for the Robins so far and was the hero on Saturday afternoon, scoring a 98th-minute equaliser at Barrow.

James Brown

The Irishman headed North of the border to sign for Ross County last summer and made 40 appearances in his first season with the Scottish Premiership outfit, scoring twice.

Brown has played nine times so far this term and got on the scoresheet in a 3-0 win against Stirling in the League Cup.

The Staggies have taken two points from their opening four games in the league and currently sit 10th in the table.
