John Fleck has signed for League Two outfit Chesterfield after leaving Blackburn Rovers at the end of his contract.

The 33-year-old has, until now, remained unattached after leaving Ewood Park in the summer. Rovers remain in talks with Fleck over returning to the club but nothing ever materialised.

John Eustace, in July, said the door 'wasn't closed' on Fleck earning himself a deal. However, they went on to sign Lewis Baker instead.

The experienced midfielder was training briefly with Rangers in Scotland but that didn't amounted to anything. It was then reported last week that Fleck was training with Chesterfield.

A few days on and he has now signed up for the remainder of the season.

“I’m delighted to be here. I’ve been training here for just over a week and the opportunity has come up to sign until the end of the season, so I’m really happy," he told Chesterfield's website.

“It’s been great to just get back in amongst the training group so I’m really looking forward to it.”

Fleck spent eight years at Sheffield United and is believed to still live in the area. Therefore, Chesterfield is a logical fit, geographically. It's unclear at this stage whether he is simply keeping fit or whether there is a potential deal on the table.
