Former Premier League referee Chris Foy has insisted Tony Harrington was correct to dismiss Makhtar Gueye against Burnley.

The Blackburn Rovers striker was shown a second yellow for waving an imaginary card at the referee, gesturing that his opponent should have been booked.

Gueye was already on a caution for an innocuous challenge in the first half. John Eustace had few complaints about this decision in isolation but felt the first card was very soft.

"Ahead of the current season, it was reiterated to clubs that clearly gesturing for a yellow card to be shown to an opposition player will be considered as unsporting behaviour and that the player making the gesture would receive a yellow card," he told Sky Sports as part of their 'Behind the Whistle' feature.

"After the Blackburn Rovers' No 9 is fouled, he clearly gestures to the referee that Burnley's No 5 should be shown a yellow card, and then repeats this action several times.

"As he is already on a yellow card, the referee has no choice here but to produce a second yellow and subsequent red card."

Rather conveniently, there's no mention of the blatant incorrect offside that saw Tyrhys Dolan's goal ruled out.
