Owen Beck has reacted to a special debut for Blackburn Rovers after a Player-of-the-Match display at Burnley.

The Liverpool loanee only signed for Rovers on Tuesday but was thrust into the action at Turf Moor. It was a baptism of fire for the 22-year-old, making his Championship debut.

It took Beck 15 minutes to work his way into the match but once he did, he barely put a foot wrong. His display earned rave reviews from the supporters and praise from his head coach.

For Beck, it was a special afternoon. He only discovered he'd be playing on Friday after it became clear Harry Pickering wouldn't be fit, having been a doubt for the game with a back spasm.

"It was a special feeling to come into a game of such high calibre," he told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"I'm over the moon for the players and the fans to get the point in the end. As much as we would have wanted to go and win it, sometimes you have to play the occasion.

"To have 10 men with 35 minutes left, we can all look at ourselves and be proud of what we did out there."

"Picks (Pickering) took the knock on Tuesday night and couldn't make it for the game which is unfortunate because he's a great player," he added.

"When the manager told me I was starting, I had to take a minute and realise what the game means to the players and the fans.

"I knew it was a feisty derby and there's a lot of big rivalry there and I'd try to do my best. I think I did that.

"It was my debut as well so I needed to showcase what I can do to the fans, the manager and also my team-mates.

"It's been a whirlwind week, just getting to know the lads, they have all been very welcoming."
