Andi Weimann is delighted with Blackburn Rovers' start to the season and praised their resilience after earning a point at Burnley with ten men.

Rovers enter the first interntional break unbeaten in the Championship, one of only five teams to do so. That was after they ground out an impressive draw at Turf Moor despite being a man light.

It looked an uphill task to defend for 30 minutes when Makhtar Gueye was dismissed for two yellows. But Rovers stood firm and defended their box brilliantly to secure a deserved point.

It means after four games, Rovers have been behind in three matches. Each time, they have roared back, taking five points and avoiding defeat in any.

Weimann was particularly impressed with the display at Burnley as they refused to buckle under Burnley's pressure in an intense East Lancs derby.

"Yeah, we said before the game that we had to be together today no matter what happens," he told The Lancashire Telegraph.

"After the red card, it was tough. Obviously, I came off not long after that but the boys stuck in for the last 30 minutes.

"We were brilliant defensively and I don't think they created too much after the sending-off. It's a very good point.

"All the boys, the back four, the two in front of them, they worked so hard. We gave them the width but we defended the crosses brilliantly. I don't think he (Pears) had a shot to save really, after the red card, unless I'm forgetting something."

"It's a massive point for us, going a goal down quite early on, we showed good character," he added.

"Their fans were on top of us but we stayed together and that was brilliant. We got the equaliser and created a few chances at the start of the second half.

"Then after the sending off, we were brilliant, it's a big point, I think."

Of course, it was Weimann's sensational volley that drew Rovers level. The experienced Austrian had already had one sighter at James Trafford's goal before lashing a bouncing ball into the top corner.

It was not just a spectacular goal but a timely one too. Rovers had conceded early and were under the cosh after a fast start by Burnley.

The 33-year-old admitted it was one of the best in his career.

"It bounced perfectly and I thought 'Why not hit it?'. I couldn't have hit it any better. It's one of those where once you've hit it, you can see it from behind and you know it's going in.

"A brilliant feeling. One of the best I've scored in my career. I had one early on but I was stretching a little bit and couldn't quite get under the ball to dink it but it wasn't too far away. The second one went in!"

Bar a blip in the Carabao Cup, Rovers have exceeded expectations with their start to the Championship. Especially when you consider they have been playing catch-up with getting new signings up to speed.

Then another five didn't arrive until the final week of the window. Once they're integrated too, Eustace should have some difficult but exciting decisions to make on his squad.

Weimann insists that the start has been very pleasing and one the group are very happy with.

"I think it's been really good," he said. "We were a bit disappointed to lose on Tuesday night but if you look at the league, it's been really good.

"We have won both home games. We have points at tough places, Norwich were in the play-offs last year and Burnley have just come down from the Premier League.

"That's two places to go. We're unbeaten, won two home games. We'll take that all day long."
