Blackburn Rovers have confirmed the signing of Rangers playmaker Todd Cantwell on a permanent deal.

The 26-year-old becomes Rovers' ninth addition of the summer, signing a three-year deal at Ewood Park. He'll wear the number eight shirt, vacated by Sam Szmodics.

Cantwell joins Lewis Baker, goalkeeper Balazs Toth and winger Amario Cozier-Dubbery in bolstering John Eustace's squad during the final 24 hours of the transfer window.

Cantwell is the star quality Eustace has been keen to add to the squad. John Park's, Head of Recruitment, relationship with the Scottish side played an important role in acquiring the talented attacker.

He has plenty of Championship experience already, having starred for Norwich City in their promotion-winning campaign several years ago. He spent six years at Carrow Road, including a brief loan at Bournemouth, before joining Rangers.

However, it became clear that Cantwell wanted to leave Ibrox this summer and Rovers have convinced him to sign. He's penned a competitive package which will be amongst one of the better earners in the current wage structure.

Cantwell plays predominantly as a number 10 and so will compete with Tyrhys Dolan, though he can also play on the left-hand side.

That is expected to be Rovers' final piece of business for the summer transfer window after a deal for Martial Godo fell down earlier in the day. The Fulham winger is now anticipated to remain at Craven Cottage.
