Shaun Maloney has revealed Wigan Athletic turned down a bid from a 'Championship club' for Thelo Aasgaard last week.

Blackburn Rovers have been linked with a move for the 22-year-old as they seek to replace the creativity of Sam Szmodics. Aasgaard is a number 10 who has impressed for the Latics in the last 18 months.

Rovers are now firmly set on signing Todd Cantwell from Rangers, with talks progressing to agree a fee and personal terms. He operates in the same areas as Aasgaard and so it would be a surprise if anything resurfaced with the Latics man.

Maloney revealed that Wigan did, in fact, turn down an offer from a Championship club for Aasgaard. Whilst he didn't name Rovers, you wouldn't have to join too many dots to make the assumption that was the club in question.

"With Thelo, we had an offer from a Championship club that the owner rejected," Maloney told Wigan Today. "And there's been nothing since."

If the offer did indeed arrive from Rovers, it's fair to assume they have now moved on. Cantwell is the priority in that position, whilst a wide forward is still being targeted too.

It promises to be a busy final 48 hours of the transfer window at Ewood Park, with goalkeeper Balazs Toth due for a medical.
