Talks are progressing between Rovers and Rangers attacker Todd Cantwell, The Lancashire Telegraph understands.

John Eustace confirmed after the Carabao Cup defeat against Blackpool that Cantwell is a player on their shortlist. However, it is not a done deal at this stage.

Rovers remain in the market for a goalkeeper to compete with Aynsley Pears following Leo Wahlstedt’s departure earlier this summer.

Hungarian Balazs Toth has been linked with a move to Ewood Park and it is understood that he is the preferred option, although the club have also looked at other goalkeepers in Europe.

Any potential deals for the shot stoppers previously mentioned from the UK are looking less likely now.

Bournemouth’s Mark Travers had been a target but, as we reported on Tuesday, Burnley have nudged ahead of the queue in that particular race.

Brighton’s Carl Rushworth and Leicester’s Daniel Iversen were also targets, the latter being the least likely option due to the finances of a potential deal.

Harrison Ashby has now emerged as another name linked with a move to Rovers in the final stages of the window.

It is understood that a deal for the Newcastle defender is possible, although he has been attracting interest from elsewhere.

Rovers have made five additions this summer, plus the renewal of Kyle McFadzean’s contract, and Eustace confirmed last night that he expects more signings before the deadline on Friday night.

The club is still looking to bring in a central midfielder and wide player as they aim to build on an unbeaten start in the Championship.
