John Eustace hailed Leo Duru after a promising display against Blackpool on his first Rovers start.

The youngster played the full 90 minutes at Ewood Park and earned rave reviews, causing the visitors plenty of problems.

He was around the first-team squad during pre-season and also came off the bench at Stockport County in the first round earlier this month.

Eustace was impressed with what he saw from the 19-year-old full-back, who made the most of his opportunity in the starting line-up.

“I thought he was excellent for his first start,” said the head coach. “That is what it is all about, giving him that game time and I thought he was magnificent on the right.

“I was really proud of his performance. He has done really well in pre-season and took his chance.”

Eustace was quizzed about a potential loan move for Duru to provide regular minutes as he continues his development.

The Rovers boss didn’t rule it out but ideally wants to keep the full-back around his squad at Ewood.

Callum Brittain has started at right-back in the league so far this season, while Joe Rankin-Costello has also played there in the past.

Eustace replied: “Possibly, but if they are good enough you will give them the game time. Leo took his chance throughout pre-season.

“Obviously, Callum has been in there and done very well. Leo is an exciting young player and I want to keep him in the group as much as we can and see him keep growing.”
