New Rovers signing Owen Beck has been named in the Wales squad for their Nations League matches against Turkey and Montenegro next month.
Wrexham-born Beck was called up to the senior squad for the first time last season but is yet to win his first cap, having represented his country at youth level.
Craig Bellamy was named Wales’ new manager over the summer, succeeding Rob Page who was sacked after poor displays against Slovakia and Gibraltar, having also missed out on Euro qualification.
Bellamy will be keeping a close eye on Beck at Rovers and believes he could become an established international player in a couple of years.
“Owen Beck, we will see what happens there but a player with big potential. I believe in the next couple of years he is really going to be an accomplished international player," he told a press conference.
When asked generally about the benefit of young players going out on loan in search of regular minutes, Bellamy replied: “If anyone can get playing time, as course it is a benefit to us.
"It is not my position to ever call a player and demand that he goes looking for first-team football, that is between him and his club.
"The club own him, we borrow him. We don’t develop him, the clubs have him for 11 months and we have him for a month if we are lucky.
"Of course, tactically, how we play, identity – that is what we have to be able to put in. If there are players we call up who are playing regularly, of course it benefits us.
"If they do not, it is up to us to see what stage they are at when we call them in. We are always aware of training, the data that gets sent to us and what they are able to do."
Beck follows in the footsteps of the likes of Harvey Elliott, Leighton Clarkson, Tyler Morton and Billy Koumetio, who also had stints at Rovers.
The 22-year-old left-back revealed he had conversations about the move with some of his Anfield team-mates, who only had good things to say about their experiences in East Lancashire.
“It’s a great feeling,” he told RoversTV. “I’ve had a couple friends and team-mates who have been here over on loan the last few years and they only had positive things to say about the club.
“I spoke to Tyler Morton, Leighton Clarkson and Billy, who were all full of praise when speaking about the club. I’m sure I’ll be saying the same things when I leave.
“I think Ty played 30 or 40 games for Rovers and that’s similar to what I want to do. I want to come in, play as many games as I can and improve as a player.
“When I heard about the interest, it was a no-brainer really. It’s a massive club and I can’t wait to get out there at Ewood Park.
“When I heard of the interest, I watched highlights of the team and saw how they play. I spoke with the manager and everything was positive. That all sparked my interest to come here.”
Beck spent last season on loan at Dundee in the Scottish Premiership, playing 29 times and scoring twice as the Dee secured a top-half finish.
“Last season was probably my first stint where I had consecutive games in league football and that is exactly what I want to do here," he added.
“I developed a lot last season and learnt a lot. Things like going through you clips, gym work, it’s all important.
"I want to make my mark, play as many games as I can and to help the team as much as I can.
“There were constant games and you’ve got to be ready. I enjoyed every minute of it and I want to have the same positive impact here."
