Here's how The Lancashire Telegraph scored the players' performances, with a six representing par for the course.
Aynsley Pears - 6
Could do very little about either goal after being badly exposed, in all truth. Good save to deny Apter making it three.
Leo Duru - 9
Fantastic display on debut, particularly in the first half. Constantly ran at his opposite number and beat them for fun. Fans really enjoyed watching him; he played with bravery.
Hayden Carter - 6
Nearly scored after a rampaging run up the pitch and a clever flick by Sigurdsson.
Danny Batth - 7
Solid in his defending as he picked up more valuable match minutes. Didn't put a foot wrong.
Harry Pickering - 7
Some nice deliveries from the left side a she got forward on the overlap. Saw more of him in the final third than usual.
Joe Rankin-Costello - 4
Wasn't in the game much throughout and then made a bad mistake which gifted Coulson the winner. No dressing that one up, I'm afraid.
John Buckley - 7
Saw plenty of the ball as he did against Stockport but wasn't able to create as much.
Andi Weimann - 6
Worked hard down the right flank but wasn't too heavily involved. A few nice touches and clever runs.
Jack Vale - 6
Looks like he has bulked up a bit from two years ago. Some decent threaded passes and a few sights of goal but nothing too dangerous.
Arnor Sigurdsson - 6
Didn't back up his goal against Oxford with another dominant display. Made a nice run to create the penalty but, otherwise, quite quiet.
Makhtar Gueye - 7
Led the line well and comfortably dispatched the penalty, having created the opening with his clever pass around the corner.
Substitutes:
Dom Hyam (Pickering, 65') - 5
Looked uncomfortable basically playing as a makeshift left-back. The change of shape didn't help Rovers at all.
Kyle McFadzean (Batth, 65') - 6
On for the last 30 minutes in the middle of the defence.
Ryan Hedges (Weimann, 65') - 6
Saw a shot well saved by O'Donnell but didn't see much of the ball after coming on.
Tyrhys Dolan (Vale, 65') - 6
It was a similar story for most of the attackers with Rovers on the back foot after the changes.
Yuki Ohashi (Gueye, 65') - 6
A few nice touches but no sight of goal after arriving from the bench.
Unused substitutes: Hilton, Travis, Tyjon, Bloxham.
Referee: Anthony Backhouse
Attendance: 9,4,18
