Blackburn Rovers will discover their opponents in the third round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night, if they beat Blackpool.

John Eustace's side are looking to ensure their place amongst the Premier League big hitters and continue their unbeaten start to the season, with a win over the Seasiders.

The draw for the Carabao Cup third round takes place on Wednesday night, after the conclusion of Nottingham Forest vs Newcastle United, live on Sky Sports.

However, due to the extended format of the UEFA Champions League and Europa League, there will be changes to the draw. The ties for round three will be played across two different midweeks, W/C 16 & 23 September, to ensure there are no clashes for those playing in Europe.

Round three consists of the 26 tie winners from round two plus the six Premier League clubs in European competitions. That's Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United. Chelsea don't count as they're in the Conference League, which doesn't start until October.

To ensure none of those six clubs draw each other, they will be separated (pot one) from the other 26 teams. They will be drawn first as home or away and then six more teams will be drawn from the second pot to compete against them.

The remaining 20 teams will then be drawn traditionally. It's also worth noting that the draw is no longer regionalised, as had been the case in round one or two. Numbers for the draw will be announced on Wednesday morning.
