Here's how The Lancashire Telegraph scored the players' performances, with a six representing par for the course.

Aynsley Pears - 8

Could do nothing about Harris' phenomenal volley from range. Made a few smart saves and commanded his area well with some good punches.

Callum Brittain - 7

Tried to offer a threat on the right but lacked a real target to hit for crosses until Gueye came on.

Hayden Carter - 7

Played some nice passes out from defence and stepped into the play to try and help in build-up.

Dom Hyam - 7

Won plenty of headers and marshalled Harris pretty well across the 90 minutes.

Harry Pickering - 7

Phillips had a bit of joy down his side but often on the counter-attack. Whipped in some lovely set-pieces.

Lewis Travis - 7

Won plenty of tackles and ratted around in his usual way. Tired a little in the second half.

Sondre Tronstad - 7

Solid in the middle of the pitch. Came into the game stronger in the second half after a quieter opening 45.

Joe Rankin-Costello - 7

Was far more involved in the game this week. Some nice turns and touches plus a superbly well-taken goal to open his account for the season.

Tyrhys Dolan - 7

Looked brighter in the second half after switching to the left where he was able to run at his man and cause problems. Final action was just lacking, at times.

Ryan Hedges - 6

A quieter afternoon after a bright display at Norwich. Didn't see a great deal of the ball and was replaced shortly after the second half began.

Yuki Ohashi - 7

Ratted around and pressed the Oxford defenders, who won't have enjoyed their afternoon. Will probably benefit more when he's alongside Gueye rather than instead of him.

Substitutes:

Makhtar Gueye (Hedges, 52') - 7

Gave Rovers a better balance and more of a focal point. Oxford sat deeper as the half wore on and that limited his space behind the defence.

Andi Weimann (Rankin-Costello, 65') - 6

Flicked a header just wide which was pretty unlucky. On the periphery otherwise.

Arnor Sigurdsson (Dolan, 75') - 8

The match winner. A finish that we all know he's capable of. Cutting inside and curling off the post and in. Fantastic strike.

Unused substitutes: Hilton, McFadzean, Batth, Duru, Buckley, Vale.
