Duncan McGuire has signed a new deal at Orlando City, ending his ongoing transfer saga.

Blackburn Rovers thought they had signed the American striker in January only for the deal to be rejected by the EFL. McGuire then return to the Major League Soccer club with Rovers officials promising to enter talks over a summer transfer.

Rovers indeed kept contact with McGuire's agency and Orlando but with a new head coach and recruitment team arriving at Ewood Park after the deal failed, they moved on to other targets. Comments from the striker also suggested he didn't want to revisit talks with Rovers.

McGuire was expected to move elsewhere in Europe but has instead signed fresh terms with Orlando. The deal runs until 2027, with the option of a further year, ending any chance of a transfer.

"We are incredibly happy to have signed Duncan to a new contract and for his desire to stay here with us in Orlando,” General Manager Luiz Muzzi said.

“Since he’s arrived here, he’s been a vital piece of our team and he will continue to be for the foreseeable future. We’re excited to see what more Duncan can accomplish, as he helps us push for more championships and as he fights for a spot on the U.S. roster for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.”

“I’m really happy to get this deal done and know that I can call Orlando home for the next three years," McGuire said.

"It’s a great place to be, and I'm excited to see what the future holds here. It means a lot that the Club has shown trust and faith in me, and that goes a long way.

"I hope I can re-pay the favour by continuing to do what I've been doing the past year, for both the team and the fans.”
