Dilan Markanday is eager to show what he can do in League Two following a dream start to life at Chesterfield.

The winger played almost an hour on his debut at the weekend and produced a couple of assists for Tom Naylor as Paul Cook’s side ran out 5-0 winners against Crewe Alexandra at Gresty Road.

Both assists came from set-pieces as the Spireites secured their first win back in League Two following promotion from the National League.

“I found it really enjoyable,” Markanday told the club channels. “Obviously, my first game with the boys having joined a couple of days before.

“It was quite an intense few days but I really enjoyed it. A great win, 5-0, a clean sheet and just an enjoyable day.

“I am really happy to be part of it from the get-go and get used to how the boys play, I am still learning the style of play and things like that. The fans were really good.

“There are really good players in the team. I think it is always easy to get that connection with good players because they are on that same wavelength as you.

“I am looking forward to linking up with them more and hopefully there is more to come, this is just the start.

“I just want to help win football matches. Hopefully, if we can keep doing that consistently we will find ourselves in a good position by the end of the season. I just want to play with freedom and express myself.”

Cook was impressed with what he saw from Markanday but plans to be cautious with the wideman’s minutes as he builds up sharpness.

The manager added: “We are a learning team and obviously when you are lucky enough to bring in the likes of Markanday to the building, he has just got quality.

“I love flair players who have got quality, we have got good players in the building and it makes me so happy.

“It doesn’t mean we will win, it is football! But when you have got players going on the pitch thinking, ‘Get him the ball and he can do a bit’ - we are lucky to have that type of player.”
