Tyrhys Dolan is pleased to see Rovers’ new strikers “hit the ground running” and hopes to help keep the goals flowing.

Yuki Ohashi netted his third goal in as many games to rescue a point at Norwich City over the weekend, while Makhtar Gueye and Andi Weimann have also made promising starts to life in East Lancashire.

Dolan, who got on the scoresheet during the 4-2 win against Derby County on the opening day, believe Rovers’ hard work on the training pitch is paying off.

“It is positive,” he said. “We had quite a long pre-season and it looks like it is paying off, we have scored some goals which is really good.

“It is good that other players are scoring. I think Szmods (Sam Szmodics) was 60 per cent of our goals last season so we knew players needed to chip in. It is good to see names on the scoresheet.

“It is what I want to add to my game so it was important for me to kickstart the season with hopefully the first of many. It was a good feeling.”

Ohashi and Gueye, in particular, are rapidly becoming fan favourites following their moves from Sanfrecce Hiroshima and Molenbeek respectively.

“Good additions to the squad, they have come in and hit the ground running,” the 22-year-old continued.

“They instantly fit in with the boys, it is a good squad and no-one ever feels out of place. When I came in, they instantly felt like family.

“The boys are like that – even coming from different cultures, we are all one here. It is good to have them in the team and see them getting some goals.

“It is nice for Yuki and Makhtar feeling that love (from the fans), and Andi as well. I am sure they are definitely feeling the love and it will only help them. Hopefully, that support will keep giving them confidence that helps them play well.”

Dolan found the net five times in the Championship last term and is keen to “step up” in the coming weeks and months.

The versatile attacker admits he feels at home in the No 10 role but is happy to slot in wherever needed if it will help the team.

“This season is major for me just in terms of stepping up,” he insisted. “All the strikers who were here when I signed are pretty much gone now with losing Gally (Sam Gallagher), so I need to step up.

“I know that and I back myself to do it. I am putting in the work on and off the pitch and hopefully it pays off this season. I will give everything I can for the club and hopefully have a great season.

“I want to play in the 10, that is where I feel more comfortable. But if it will help the team, I will play anywhere. It doesn’t matter to me. As long as I can do a job for the team, that is the main thing.”
