Blackburn Rovers are no closer to making any new additions, according to John Eustace.

Rovers are still looking to add to their squad with a little more than two weeks of the transfer window remaining. After a busy week at the start of August, incomings have been scant.

Eustace has made it clear he wants to add more bodies to his squad to strengthen his options. A goalkeeper, full-back and midfielder remain obvious priorities with a wide player also desired.

"It's very evident that we need three or four players to help with certain positions," Eustace said.

"If not, we'll get on with it. The group is good. There's nothing at the moment, I know everyone is working as hard as they can to get players in.

"It's non-stop, we want to keep as many players as we can at the football club and bring in as many good players we can too. It's very busy.

"It's the areas that we haven't got much competition for places. We have two full-backs, young Leo (Duru) is there pushing too. We have one senior goalkeeper in the building.

"We have a great goalkeeper in Aynsley, he's done a great job. We do need to bring one in to help the group but he's had a great start to the season.

"We've got young Joe, Ben Benson works very hard with all the goalkeepers. If we can't bring one in, then we have cover.

"We have three central midfielders. We do need more bodies in that area in particular and the wide areas would be great too."

Sam Szmodics' future remains a hot topic of conversation but his return to the first-team fold has raised hopes he could remain at Ewood Park.

The forward scored twice and played an hour at Edgeley Park and could now be in contention to start this weekend against Norwich City.

As things stand, nothing has progressed with Ipswich Town and so he remains a Rovers player.

"I hope so, I haven't heard anything has changed," Eustace said when asked for an update on Szmodics.

"Hopefully, he will be involved at the weekend, yeah. It's the second game he played of pre-season (against Stockport).

"We have progressed him nicely. It's important we don't rush him, we don't want him to break down and he gets an injury. He's progressing nicely as are the other players that have started playing games late."

Dilan Markanday remains set to go out on loan. There are a number of clubs interested, with Chesterfield amongst those vying for his services.

"He's talking to a couple of clubs still," Eustace said.

"Dilan will go somewhere that really want him, he's had a great pre-season, he's been on fire. He has a lot of admirers.

"It's important for him to continue his development and get 25, 30 games under his belt and then come back and be a star for Blackburn.

"If you look at Scotty and Hayden going away, they came back ready. It's been proven at Blackburn that when players need to go out they come back for the first-team environment."
