John Eustace insists Blackburn Rovers must bulk up their squad before the transfer window shuts with changes afoot against Stockport County.

Rovers travel to Edgeley Park in the Carabao Cup first round on Tuesday night and will give minutes to those who didn't feature against Derby County. New signings Danny Batth, Andi Weimann and Yuki Ohashi could make their full debuts.

Others like Ryan Hedges and Joe Rankin-Costello are likely to get the night off. The game will probably come too soon for Kyle McFadzean as he builds up his fitness.

Eustace wants four more additions before the window closes and insists for this season to be a success, they'll need a strong squad.

"You’re only as strong as your bench and your squad," he told RoversTV.

"There’s gonna be injuries, suspensions, it’s still evident that we need to bring 3 or 4 more good players. We need cover in the full-back areas, the midfield’s very light, goalkeeper’s light as well. So it’s important we bring the right players in that help us improve and make us better.

"If you’re gonna be successful you need to have a strong squad and a strong bench and everyone’s got to be heading in the same direction, in that the players who don’t start still know they have a massive part to play. It’s a squad game.

"We have to have to a look to see who's gonna be fit and available. We still want to be competitive, we still want to win the game. We want to give vital minutes to players who've come in late. It's about getting the balance right."

Rovers only have two players on the treatment table right now, Zak Gilsenan and Harry Leonard.

Leonard dislocated his shoulder at the start of July whilst Gilsenan suffered a setback after a thigh injury. Both are still a fair distance from being able to return.

"Zak [Gilsenan] is still 6 or 7 weeks away, Harry [Leonard] is still 4 or 5 weeks away," he explained.

"They unfortunately got injured at the wrong time. They're both really exciting players and I want to keep them here and want to see them grow with the football club."
