Here's how The Lancashire Telegraph scored the players' performances, with a six representing par for the course.
Aynsley Pears - 7
Almost got caught out by a swirling corner but recovered to scramble it away. Couldn't do anything about either goal. Distribution, particularly first half, was good.
Callum Brittain - 8
Some good overlaps down the right and a pin-point cross to find Szmodics for the third. A good outlet down that side.
Hayden Carter - 9
Has to get a big rating for his brilliant, majestic run to create the second goal. Wins it back, one-two, Curyff turn and a beautiful cross. Sensational play.
Dom Hyam - 8
A lot of good clearances from dangerous balls into the box. Led the defence well with plenty of important interceptions.
Harry Pickering - 7
Solid and steady as usual. Handled the dangers down the right well.
Sondre Tronstad - 7
Solid in the middle of the park, broke things up and played it simple.
Lewis Travis - 9
Stood out, particularly in the first half. An energetic, tough-tackling performance from the captain.
Joe Rankin-Costello - 6
A quieter night for the creative midfielder. Didn't get in the game as much as he'd have liked before coming off.
Tyrhys Dolan - 8
Took his goal well from close range. Worked hard and linked play well in the number 10 role.
Ryan Hedges - 6
A work-man like display on the left side. Still getting up to full fitness after a long lay-off.
Makhtar Gueye - 8
A really impressive first half. Held the ball up well and his movement was clever. Tired in the second and was a bit wasteful with a good chance just before going off.
Substitutes:
Sam Szmodics (Hedges, 65') - 8
Who else? Showed exactly where his head is by turning in Brittain's cross. Good composure to slid in Ohashi for the fourth.
Andi Weimann (Rankin-Costello, 65') - 8
Lovely movement to peel off at the back post to nod in Carter's cross. Dream debut.
Yuki Ohashi (Gueye, 65') - 8
A phenomenal finish from Ohashi to dink the goalkeeper. Showed superb composure.
Tyrhys Dolan (Batth, 87') - N/A
On for the final minutes for his debut.
Unused substitutes: Hilton,, Buckley, Markanday, Sigurdsson, Vale.
Referee: Josh Smith
Attendance: 17,975
