Rudy Gestede has had a busy start to life as head of football operations at Rovers – but is pleased with the work done in the transfer market so far.

Makhtar Gueye, Yuki Ohashi, Danny Batth and Andi Weimann have arrived at Ewood Park recently, while Kyle McFadzean returned for the 2024/25 campaign.

Gestede admitted it had been challenging with little time to prepare for the summer window but is confident Rovers are now “on the right track”.

He told the club channels: “Usually you prepare your transfer window six months (in advance).

“We had to put a lot of energy into it but I am pleased with the five senior signings we made and the three young players for the Academy.

“Probably a few more (bits of) business to bring more strength and power to our team but, for now, I think we are on the right track and it is exciting the season is starting. I am sure we have got a strong team.”

Gestede added: “We have to support John, the way he wants to play football but also to make sure it is fitting the strategy of the club.

“We sit down together and discuss where we can add value and strength to our team. Then, we identify the player we want to bring in. We have watched him, we do our research on the personality of the player.

“If we all agree on the profile, we go further in the discussion and try to find a deal with the player and the club. Then, we are happy to welcome them and try to make sure they perform for the club.”

Batth, Weimann and McFadzean bring a wealth of Championship experience to John Eustace’s squad, while Gueye and Ohashi are getting their first taste of English football.

Gestede believes it is important to find a balance between signings that will improve the team in the short team and also making strides towards the club’s long-term goals.

He explained: “We have to prepare for this season but also we have to look at the next few seasons.

“The experienced players coming in will bring knowledge of the league and leadership in the team - that is what we needed from last season.

“Danny Batth, McFadz, Weimann, these players with 200-plus games in the Championship. We know what they are going to bring to the club.

“We also brought some foreign players to the club. Makhtar will bring size, power and goals for us up front and Yuki Ohashi will bring energy on the pitch, discipline and also goals because of his track record.

“We think those additions are what we were missing last season. We have got a good squad in place, we were just trying to add a few players to make us better.

“I am pleased with the job we have done as a team but the transfer window is still open. There are probably a few additions to the squad and a few players going to go on loan or leave the club. There is always some discussion in this period.”
