John Eustace hopes that Lewis Travis will remain a Blackburn Rovers player after interest in the midfielder.

The 26-year-old has attracted attention from Championship admirers this season. Both Sheffield United, earlier in the window, and now Stoke City have looked at a potential deal for Travis.

The midfielder spent last season on loan at Ipswich Town and falling out with Jon Dahl Tomasson. He has been reintegrated into the team during pre-season under John Eustace.

Whilst no official bids have been made for Travis at the time of writing, it would be interesting to see the standpoint of the club on his future if an offer was made.

Eustace, though, wants to keep Travis and sees him as part of his plans moving forward.

"I think it's very evident that Lewis is a leader, he was captain of the team last season," Eustace told The Lancashire Telegraph.

"Before I came in, he went to Ipswich, he has a promotion on his CV. He's been at a top club in the Championship and he knows how things work at the top level in this league.

"His experience is vital around the group. I'd love Lewis to stay and be an important part of the team."

Travis is in contention to be named Rovers captain for 2023/24. Eustace was asked at his press conference but said a decision hadn't been made.

Dom Hyam and Hayden Carter are the other players who have worn armbands during the pre-season.
