John Fleck has admitted it would be 'a dream' to re-sign for Rangers with a return to Blackburn Rovers appearing increasingly unlikely.

The 32-year-old left Rovers at the end of his six-month contract, having played just 17 minutes before a shin injury ruled him out for the season.

Rovers said in their retained list that talks were ongoing with Fleck, whilst John Eustace told The Lancashire Telegraph on July 26 that he hadn't ruled out a return for the midfielder.

However, it's since transpired that Fleck is training with Rangers, one of his former clubs. Evidently, he would lo0ve a return to Ibrox and the 'homegrown rule' for the UEFA Champions League could boost his chances of earning a deal.

“Do I have unfinished business with the club? That’s not for me to say," he said.

"My aim now is carve out something special in my career and there are options, I have offers in Europe and England and I now need to find the right club to kick things on.

“I’ve always said it would be a dream of mine to come back to Rangers and nothing changes in that regard. I said that If that chance came further down the line to come back then I’d love it to be honest.

"Who wouldn’t? This is Glasgow Rangers we are talking about, a club which is engrained in my heart.

“Rangers are a special club and when I left in 2012 it broke my heart, but I needed to get away to prove myself away from Glasgow and that’s what I’ve done and I’m proud of all that I’ve achieved but I still have plenty more to do.”

Rovers are understood to be in the market for another central midfielder after allowing Jake Garrett to leave on loan. Lewis Travis has also had interest from Stoke City, amongst other Championship clubs.
