Tyler Walton scored his first goal in an Accrington shirt but ended up on the losing side in today’s final friendly at Lancaster City.
Jimmy Knowles, Seb Quirk, and Connor O’Brien all played 90 minutes at the Giant Axe Stadium as John Doolan’s Reds went down 2-1.
Stanley began on the front foot and Alex Henderson headed against the bar on 11 minutes, following a pinpoint delivery from Quirk.
The visitors opened the scoring two minutes later, Walton slotting home from an acute angle, after the winger’s initial shot had been saved by City trialist A.
The hosts grew into the game and Christian Sloan saw his header rebound off the far post on 19 minutes, before trialist C reacted quickly to poke the ball past Michael Kelly from close range.
Quirk tried his luck from distance, but saw his shot stopped by trialist A, with Sloan also doing well to block a Knowles effort at goal.
The Reds, who made a total of eight substitutions, had opportunities to regain the lead through Dan Martin and Kelsey Mooney.
However, Chris Willcock’s side then succeeded in doing so on the hour mark, as Dom Lawson turned home a long throw-in to put the hosts ahead.
It looked as though Josh Woods had grabbed an equaliser four minutes from time for Doolan’s side, but his shot from distance was kept out well by trialist A.
Fifteen-year-old Stanley academy product, Silver Eze, was then brought on to replace Zach Awe, with the defender seeing out the closing moments of the game alongside Seamus Conneely.
But the Reds could not find a leveller on the day as their friendly schedule came to an end.
