Danny Batth believes he can hit the ground running at Rovers after finally sealing a move to Ewood Park.

The experienced defender had agreed a deal last summer but it was scuppered by problems off the pitch.

Batth has now put pen to paper and brings further experience to Rovers’ backline following the return of Kyle McFadzean.

“I am delighted,” he told the club channels. “I learnt of the interest over the summer and am just glad to get it over the line and finally be here.

“Last summer, I came really close and for whatever reason it didn’t get over the line. I am now looking forward to getting stuck in and enjoying the challenge.”

The 33-year-old spent last season at Norwich, playing 19 times as the Canaries reached the play-offs before coming up short against Leeds.

“It was quite last-minute joining Norwich but I enjoyed the experience,” he added. “There are some great people and getting into the play-offs was a success for a group, but unfortunately we missed out on the final and promotion.”

Batth had been training with Wolves over the summer to build up his fitness and is confident it has given him a good base to build on in the coming weeks.

When asked about joining a week before the new season, he replied: “In the grand scheme of things, the season hasn’t even kicked off yet. A lot of clubs are reluctant to do anything until the last few weeks of the window.

“I am happy to be here now, I have worked very hard over the summer and am very grateful to Wolves for having me in to train with them for the last three or four weeks.

“I feel I have got a good base to build on now and hopefully I can get some minutes as soon as possible.

“Initially, you want a bit of a break with the family and some rest because it is a long, old season. But after a few weeks in the sun, you want to get back stuck into it.

“I have been lucky to have great facilities going back to Wolves and working the staff there, it was brilliant.”

The centre-back has trained with his new team-mates for the first time and can already sense the hunger in the group as they aim to build on a tough campaign.

“I have had a really warm welcome,” he said. “There are a lot of lads I have played against over the years and it seems like a really good group – bubbly, bright and focused.

“It was nice to get in the building, meet all the faces and try to learn everyone’s name.

“I have worked in different ways throughout my career and as you progress at different clubs, and under different manager, you always add different strings to your bow.

“I will listen to what the manager asks of me and try to show that on the pitch with my own personality and character.”

Batth had conversations with John Eustace before signing on the dotted line and was instantly impressed with the head coach.

“He didn’t have to sell the club, I just wanted to speak to him about the project and the direction it is going in,” he recalled.

“The manager is a humble guy and very driven to do well for this club. As soon as you here this from the man at the top, that gives you the right focus.

“I am focusing on playing regularly and forcing my way into the team to start with. Obviously, the lads have been in for a good few weeks now.

"We just have to build, each game is a new challenge to try and win and let’s see where we can go.”
