Jake Garrett is in talks to leave Blackburn Rovers on loan and join Bristol Rovers for the 2024/25 season, The Lancashire Telegraph understands.

In what has been a very busy week for the club, Garrett is set to be the latest player to depart, albeit only temporarily.

The 21-year-old will get his first taste of first-team football away from Ewood Park this campaign. Garrett won Rovers' Young Player of the Year award last term but struggled for minutes in the second half of the season.

John Eustace has used him alongside John Buckley in the 'second' XI this pre-season, perhaps indicating his pecking order in the squad. With that in mind, a loan move makes sense to ensure his development isn't hampered.

Rovers have Lewis Travis and Sondre Tronstad, who are expected to start the opening game at Derby County, as well as Joe Rankin-Costello in the centre of the pitch. Buckley is another vying for regular minutes.

Eustace has often operated with three in the middle, with one usually being a number 10. With Sam Szmodics likely to leave, it's quite possible Garrett's exit will create space for another midfielder to arrive.

The Rovers head coach hasn't ruled out a return for John Fleck, who is currently training with Rangers. Other midfielders such as Lewis Baker have also been linked which would indicate Eustace would like to bolster that area.
