Makhtar Gueye has achieved a dream to play in English football after signing for Blackburn Rovers.

The 26-year-old striker has joined Rovers this week in a deal understood to be worth around £1million.

The physical, six-foot-four attacker became John Eustace's first summer signing and is keen to make an impression at Ewood Park.

From an early age, Gueye has targeted a career in England and is delighted to have made the move to Rovers.

"I'm very happy to be here at Blackburn, I'm delighted to have signed for such a big club," he told RoversTV.

"It was always my dream to be able to play in England. I'm happy to sign for such a historic club like Blackburn.

"I have been in touch with the club for a few weeks and then when an agreement was found between the clubs, and myself, I was very pleased. I'm very excited to play in England and be involved in a big club like Rovers.

"I've known the club for a while, they had a famous Senegalese player, El Hadji-Diouf. I have a lot of friends that I've played with who are in the Championship."

Gueye scored 11 times in the Belgian Pro League last season despite RWD Molenbeek being relegated from the top tier. The forward is hopeful that his physical qualities will see him adapt to the league quickly, having sought advice from former team-mates.

“I have a few friends who have played in the Championship before like Mamadou Thiam, who played for Barnsley and I’ve done my homework on the league and the quality of the division.

"I’m confident that I have the quality to perform. They think I'll suit the league and I have the qualities to perform.

“I’ve been lucky enough to travel and play in a few places in Europe and I think it makes it easier for me to come to the Championship and adapt to life here and the club."

Scoring goals is the main focus of any incoming striker and Rovers will need Gueye to do that. Sam Gallagher has departed and Sam Szmodics could be on the way out too.

"I will use my physicality to be a presence and help the team get up the pitch," Gueye added on what he'll bring to the team.

"I want to be a threat in both boxes and make it difficult for defenders. I hope to score plenty of goals!

"The job has just started now I've joined the club. I'm going to do my best to help the team and club get back to where they belong.

"Being at a club like Rovers will help me get back to the national team which is a dream for me. My performances here will be key to helping me get back to the national team."
