Rory Finneran has officially confirmed his move to Newcastle United despite the Magpies remaining silent.

The Blackburn Rovers youngster's move has been well documented after he rejected a scholarship offer at Ewood Park. Finneran became Rovers' youngest-ever player in January but has opted to join the Premier League club.

The 16-year-old sent a farewell message to Rovers earlier this week. The club subsequently confirmed that a fee for Finneran would be decided by a tribunal, though they didn't state which club were signing him.

Of course, we've known for months he was St James' Park-bound. Leaked photos emerged on social media earlier this week and Finneran has now officially confirmed the move.

"Very excited to sign for Newcastle United," he wrote on Instagram. "Can’t wait to get started and see what the future holds." Newcastle themselves haven't made any official comment about Finneran's arrival.

It's understood Rovers have been in negotiations with Newcastle for months to try to agree a for Finneran. However, it will now be decided by an independent panel.

"Rovers can confirm that a tribunal will be required to determine the compensation fee owed to the club for young midfielder Rory Finneran," a statement said.

"Rovers had shown Rory a clear pathway to the first team, with him becoming the youngest player in the club’s history when he made his debut against Cambridge United in January aged just 15 years and 312 days.

"The Republic of Ireland youth international had been with the club since Under-8s level, but has now chosen to continue his footballing journey away from Ewood Park and we wish him well in his future career."
