Rovers youngster Georgie Gent is set to complete a permanent move to League One Barnsley, The Lancashire Telegraph understands.
Gent progressed through the youth ranks at Ewood Park and spent last season on loan at Motherwell, getting good experience under his belt in the Scottish Premiership.
He has been involved in pre-season and was part of the squad selected to travel to Austria for a training camp.
The 20-year-old is now closing in on a move to Oakwell after a deal was agreed between the two clubs.
Barnsley finished sixth in League One last season before coming up short against Bolton Wanderers in the play-off semi-final.
Former Cheltenham boss Darrell Clarke took charge at Oakwell earlier this summer, succeeding Neill Collins in the hot seat.
Meanwhile, Rovers forward Sam Gallagher is close to completing a move to Championship rivals Stoke City.
It is understood that the fee for Gallagher, who scored five goals in 27 matches last season, could rise to £1.6million.
The 28-year-old had one year left on his deal at Ewood Park, having joined the club from Southampton in the summer of 2019.
Rovers have bolstered their strike department with the additions of Yuki Ohashi and Makhtar Gueye over the past 24 hours.
It is understood that a seven-figure fee was paid to land Gueye, although it was less than what the club hopes to receive for Gallagher.
Meanwhile, talks remains ongoing between Sam Szmodics and Ipswich as the new season edges closer.
The Irish international - who enjoyed the best season of his career to date last term - remains a target for the Tractor Boys as they prepare for life in the Premier League.
Last week, The Lancashire Telegraph reported that Ipswich had seen a bid for Szmodics turned down by Rovers.
Finally, Topi Keskinen is another player who has been linked with a move to Ewood Park this summer but it is understood that nothing is imminent at the time of writing.
