Stoke City boss Steven Schumacher refused to name any specific players but hopes the club is “not too far away from bringing a few bodies in”.

The Potters are believed to hold interest in Sam Gallagher, who was left out of the Rovers squad for last weekend’s friendlies against Morecambe and Wigan.

Gallagher, who scored five goals in 27 matches last season, has one year left on his deal at Ewood Park.

Schumacher oversaw a 1-0 win against Bolton Wanderers in his side’s latest pre-season test ahead of the upcoming campaign.

After the final whistle at the Toughsheet Community Stadium, he told Stoke on Trent Live: “I’m not going to name names, I wouldn’t do that, but we’ve been working hard to try to get people into the squad.

“Now we need more than one player, we need a few players and we need players with different attributes as I always say to complement the team and what we’ve already got.

“That’s what we’ll be trying to do and as soon as we can announce something I’m sure we will.”

The manager added: “I like having numerous strikers who can do different roles.

“I should mention that I thought young Emre (Tezgel) was outstanding again today against one of the best centre-backs in the league in Santos.

“I’ve played against him loads at my previous club and he’s a massive handful, but Emre caused him problems and should have scored.”

Stoke are aiming to build on last term’s 17th-place finish in the Championship as Schumacher prepares for his first full season in the hot seat.

The Potters kick off the new campaign with a home fixture against Coventry on Saturday, August 10.
