Andreas Weimann is training with Blackburn Rovers as he looks for a new club, The Lancashire Telegraph can confirm.

The 33-year-old Austrian forward was at the Senior Training Centre on Monday for training in a bid to earn himself a contract.

Weimann left Bristol City at the end of his terms on June 30, having spent the end of last season on loan at West Brom. He scored twice in 13 appearances for the Baggies as they reached the play-offs.

The experienced Championship attacker is now on the hunt for a new home and John Eustace will run the rule over him in training.

Weimann could be a clever pick-up from Rovers. He ticks a lot of boxes Eustace is looking for via his pedigree at this level, his experience which will aid the dressing room and his versatility across the forward line.

Rovers are expected to confirm the signings of Yuki Ohashi and Makhtar Gueye shortly after undergoing medical testing on Monday. However, there is also a growing expectation that Sam Szmodics and Sam Gallagher will leave, with the latter closer to the exit door with negotiations ongoing.

So adding more goal-scoring options remains a priority for Rovers. Weimann can lead the line but is probably more comfortable playing as a number 10, in a similar way to Szmodics, or can operate off either flank.

Whilst Weimann is clearly not at the peak of his powers at 33, he is still a clever and useful operator at this level.

As well as Gallagher, Stoke City are also interested in midfielder Lewis Travis. The Rovers captain was on loan at Ipswich Town from January onwards but has been reintegrated in pre-season.

Other Championship clubs have shown interest earlier in the window and now the Potters have done similar. It's understood they have not yet formalised their interest with an offer or formal talks but they are admirers of the 26-year-old.

Rovers have been linked with other midfielders this summer, namely Lewis Baker and Cardiff City's Ryan Wintle. However, they're yet to make a move to bolster that position with five options already and other areas deemed a priority.
