Blackburn Rovers are in advanced talks to sign striker Makhtar Gueye from Belgian Pro League club RWD Molenbeek, The Lancashire Telegraph can confirm.

The 26-year-old striker is having a medical ahead of signing a permanent deal at Ewood Park. Yuki Ohashi and Kyle McFadzean are also undergoing testing ahead of completing moves to Ewood Park.

Rovers have stepped their foot on the gas to try and bolster John Eustace's squad this week. With Sam Gallagher in talks to join Stoke City and Ipswich Town remaining hot in their pursuit of Sam Szmodics, adding a striker was a necessity.

Gueye scored 11 goals in the Belgian Pro League for RWD Molenbeek last season as they were relegated to the second tier. This is the first sign of Rovers reinvesting back into the squad with the forward set to command a seven-figure fee.

Given that Gueye is undergoing a medical, the deal won't need the sale of Gallagher or Szmodics to be completed. However, it could be Rovers planning ahead with both players potentially heading for the exit door.

At six-foot-four, Gueye is a natural target man striker who can be an asset in both boxes. He particularly thrives on crosses into the box, unsurprisingly.

John Eustace has repeatedly spoken about the need to sign more goal-scorers and bulk out the squad. The additions of Gueye and Ohashi will at least add more options for the head coach.

Rovers are scouring the market for value in their pursuit of hidden gems. In these two incoming forwards, their network of contacts across the recruitment team has been key to identifying and agreeing deals.
