Leeds United are not in the race for Blackburn Rovers star Sam Szmodics, according to club source at Elland Road.

Ipswich Town saw a bid for Szmodics rejected earlier on Monday with an offer reportedly around £6million. The Lancashire Telegraph understands the bid was below Rovers' asking price and was dismissed, as a result.

The 28-year-old has been heavily courted throughout the summer but interest has materialised into formal offers this week.

Szmodics has spoken openly that eh would like to move to a Premier League club if that opportunity presented itself. Given that statement, it would not be a surprise if Ipswich returned with an improved offer.

Reports in the national media on Tuesday claimed that Leeds were also in the race for Szmodics and had 'formalised' their interest. However, a report from Leeds-based outlet, The Yorkshire Evening Post, say club sources have denied that is true.

Instead, the Whites are said to be looking elsewhere in their search for an attacker to bolster Daniel Farke's squad.

Though Leeds would've been able to offer an improved salary to Szmodics, the Rovers forward is likely to favour a switch to the top-flight, if a fee can be agreed.

Rovers have been braced for offers for their star forward, who scored 33 goals in all competitions last season, all summer. They will not stand in his way if an acceptable figure is offered by Ipswich or another top-flight club.

No formal price tag had been placed on Szmodics' head earlier in the summer, however, it's clear Rovers won't do business on the cheap despite their financial picture. John Eustace is keen to retain his services and if a move doesn't materialise, a new deal hasn't been ruled out later down the line.
