A junior football club is aiming to get more people into playing sports through a bid to build a £1 million 3G pitch at its site.

Great Harwood Rovers' plans would enable more people to use the club's facilities, across a wider demographic.

At present, the football club is spending up to £25,000 annually to use third-party 3G pitches which can be located more than 10 miles away to meet their current team requirements.

The club believes having an in-house solution would cut costs and promote sustained growth and increased participation in sports throughout the area.

Enabling multi-sport use such as netball, flag football and hockey, the 3G pitch would also accommodate the recruitment of players from less represented sections of the community.

Other potential uses include more teams for women, walking football for the over 50s, disabled sports and training bases for other FA-affiliated clubs.

Mark Sheridan, of Great Harwood Rovers, said: "This funding is significant and will go a very long way to securing a new 3G pitch facility at Great Harwood Rovers.

"This will widen the club out to get more of the community active and help keep us sustainable for a long future at our premises.

"Please if everyone can fill in the quick survey, we will be one step further to getting this project over the line for the benefit of our community."

In order for the project to proceed, Great Harwood Rovers is seeking public opinion via a survey at tinyurl.com/mrdud7x6.

The success of the bid is partly dependent on the level of interest and support demonstrated by the community.

Founded in 1975, Great Harwood Rovers has been serving the community for close to five decades.

It has more than 350 active participants in 28 teams, ranging from under sevens to under 18s, plus a mini league for four to six-year-olds.
