John Eustace was pleased to see his Rovers side show a clinical edge against Tranmere and wants that trend to continue heading into the new season.
Dilan Markanday bagged a brace against the League Two side, with Callum Brittain, Tyrhys Dolan, Joe Rankin-Costello, Pat Gamble, Jack Vale and John Buckley also getting on the scoresheet.
Goals were an issue at times last term, with Sam Szmodics carrying most of the burden in the final third.
It was an area Eustace was keen to address this summer as Rovers aim to be in top shape for the curtain raiser against newly-promoted Derby.
“It was another good workout for the boys,” the head coach told RoversTV. “Two teams got 60 minutes into their legs, which is the main thing.
“Obviously, it’s all about the physical aspect of the game at the moment in pre-season but I was delighted to score a lot of goals as well.
“Both teams were very clinical, which was great, so all round I was very pleased with the run-out.
“The lads are working their socks off. Since day one when we came in, the attitude of the group has been fantastic. I said that a lot last season and that’s continued since we’ve come back in.
“Everyone is buying into what we want to do, we want to be a really exciting football team to watch, as well as being very difficult to play against.
“I was disappointed that we conceded a couple of goals late on, but overall we’re heading in the right direction.”
The squad will now head to Austria for a training camp, which includes a fixture against Bundesliga 2 side Nurnberg.
“It’s important that we improve our numbers in the final third this season, but we know our bread and butter and that’s to be hard to play against and keep clean sheets,” Eustace continued.
“It’s about getting that right balance and there’s a lot more hard work to go. There are another four weeks to go, we’ve got a good week next week in Austria now and we’ll keep working on those areas we need to improve on.”
