Rovers are in talks with Leeds United defender Liam Cooper, The Lancashire Telegraph understands.

The 32-year-old, who made 19 appearances last season as Leeds narrowly missed out on promotion back to the Premier League, has also been attracting interest from Sheffield United.

John Eustace is looking to bolster his defensive options ahead of the upcoming campaign, with Hayden Carter and Dom Hyam currently the only centre-back options with Championship experience while Scott Wharton is out injured.

Wages will be the deciding factor over a potential deal for Cooper but it is understood that he would be willing to take a pay cut from his current contract at Leeds.

The Scottish international is focused on getting regular playing time and is unlikely to sign a new deal at Elland Road.

Cooper's experience is one of the main reasons Leeds want to keep hold of him and would be a big boost for Rovers' young squad.

Earlier this week, The Lancashire Telegraph reported that the club ran the risk of losing Kyle McFadzean with the former Coventry man now a free agent.

McFadzean spent the second half of last term at Ewood Park after signing a short-term deal, playing 13 times.

Hull City defender Sean McLoughlin has also been linked with a move to Ewood Park this summer and gave a coy when asked about speculation over his future.

Connor O'Riordan and Pat Gamble played the second half of last weekend’s friendly at Accrington Stanley.
